Okay. We’re getting close. Here’s what we need and here’s where we’re asking for help. The following is a list of things that we need to get done and we need volunteers to help us do them. If you can help out with any of these things please contact your friendly bride and/or groom.
Day Of Stuff:
If you can/want to do any of these things please let us know as soon as you do so we can quit fretting about the small stuff and make sure we show up in one piece the day of. Thanks!
OH! Also if you play music and want to contribute to list of musician who will be playing you can contact Sarah Jo who is in charge of all musical entertainment. (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Last week we had a lovely engagement photo shoot with the incomparable Andrea Rose of the Photo Co. This is one of the pictures she took and I cannot begin to explain to how perfectly it captures Jay and I’s distinct personalities as well as who we are a couple. I look off into the distance, safe under my umbrella while he happily attempts to catch rain in his mouth.
Amazing. I cannot wait for her to shoot our wedding. Speaking of that; we’re officially two months to the day out! Getting pretty excited.
I’ll be sending out thank you cards soon for the items we’ve already received from our registry. The entire concept of asking for gifts sort of squicks me out and I was real hesitant to do it, but we are on a tight budget and I didn’t realize how many things we’ve just done without because spending $60 on a set of knives seems unreasonable to our budget. A note however on the gift thing: we appreciate anything/everything our loved ones do for us but we do not in any way shape or form expect gifts. So thank you to all those who have helped out already in whatever way they are able. We truly appreciate every gift; be it time, love, patience or that really sweet stainless steel tea pot from Sur La Table.
My family is throwing me a bridal shower on June 24th and my aunt and uncle have graciously offered the use of their dance studio as the venue for it. I’m excited to see some of my friends and family that I haven’t had a chance to spend much time with recently and this will be the first time I’ve ever attended a bridal shower before so it’s all new to me!
Next month some time Jay will have his bachelor party which I’m sure promises to be interesting. No specific plans yet for that but we’ll keep you all apprised of the where/when as it becomes available!
Because we cheaped out on hard copy invitations I’ve made this lovely email campaign to send to our friends and family by way of formal invitation to our wedding. I’m not saying I’m a genius, but I have to admit this free Mad Mimi newsletter thing is a lot quicker/cheaper than assembling, addressing, stamping and sending 200 invitations.
Also people get it immediately and we’re not at the whim of the postal service to make sure it gets there in one piece. We like that!
We’re just about 2 months and 2 weeks out from our big day. Crunch time! We’re looking for table linens, center pieces and other details. Mostly it’s coming together pretty well. We have an engagement photo shoot next weekend with our fabulous wedding photographer Andrea Rose and we’re super stoked for some non iPhone photos to be able to share with people.
Next up: bridal shower and bachelor/ette parties!
Guys. We met the most amazing (and ADORABLE) wedding photographer yesterday. Well actually she’s just a photographer in general but she also does weddings. Probably just to pay the bills because her everyday photographer is great and moody and raw and all kinds of awesome artistic adjectives and we are stoked to have her on board for Super Mega Awesome Nuptials 2012: The Party Rock Edition.
Just look at this shot she did for someone else’s wedding. Stunning.
So excited. And my plan to make her my new BFF is well under way. I think I can do it. She’s pretty amazing. Also her prices are too incredible to be real, if you’re in Alaska and looking for a photographer I suggest booking ASAP because she is going to blow up any minute and realize how amazing she is and her prices are going to go berserk and you’re going to get lame halo’d wedding photography that looks like junior prom. You don’t want that. That’s horrible.
So far our nuptials are reading like a pretty bad ass who’s who of Anchorage night life.
There us, the fabulous bride and groom: Daniella Cortez and Jahaziel Alvarez
Then we’ve got the wedding party:
Maid of Honor Kat Cortez, best known for drag performances with the Last Frontier Drag Kings and her iconic smirk + skateboard combo seen about town. Matron of Honor Sj Stephens, queen of the open mic night, math balladeer and reluctant bombshell. Bridesmaids Shannon Lusk and Liz Mendel, two of the most voluptuous fast talking smart asses you ever did meet.
The groomsmen are a sight as well; we’ve got Drew Pineda, Dustin Wilson and Zachary Reeves dusting off their suits and preparing to teach the rest of the wedding party how to actually party. Getting them out of the nightclub on a Saturday night might be a feat, but we’re pretty sure wherever they are is where the party is.
Conducting this whole mess is the honorable Reverend Ezra Gibson, best known for slangin’ breakfast treats at Snow City, wicked rhymes on the mic and down and dirty moves on the dance floor.
Dj Alex the Lion will be in the house making sure our tunes are top notch and a bevy of local rockstars, writers, photographers and general merriment makers will be in attendance. And what’s this? Hold the phone, we’ve just received word that Alaskan ex-pat and long time bridal bestie Heather ‘Heat’ Scholz will be there as well all the way from scenic Northern California. Woah, hold up. We’ve got a one Ashley “Ash Hazard” Tucker on the books as well, set to handle hair, make up and last minute vodka shots for the wedding party. Hot off the presses, folks. This is shaping up to be, dare I say it, epic? Yes. Definitely epic.
We can’t wait to share the day with you all. And just wait until you see my sick dance moves, the Awkward Squid is going to be in full effect. Next question: what song should we walk down the aisle too? Cast your vote by responding to this post.
1. First Day of my Life - Bright Eyes
2. Marry You - Bruno Mars (expect there to be dancing if we choose this one)
3. I Was Made for You - She & Him
4. Other/Suggest Your Own
We have a venue! The joyous union of Daniella Cortez to Jahaziel Alvarez will take place at 4 p.m. August 4th 2012 in the Port View Banquet Room at the Alaska Experience Theater located at 333 W. 4th Ave Anchorage, AK 99501
We very nearly invitations ordered. We’re pinning down a wedding photographer. Things are coming together.
We also have some registry stuff:
Or go here for an actual registry. Which we are still working on adding things to.
It’s nearly Spring in Alaska, the snow is slowly receding and it’s getting warmer each day. We’re getting pretty excited for a summer full of family bbq’s, bike rides and down and dirty wedding planning. We’re less than four months away from the big day now!
Soon we will be calling on our local friends to help us craft our decorations and center pieces so get yer hot glue guns out, homies, we’re about to institute Friday Night Craft Parties on the regular.
Love and Squishiness,
Dani + Jay
We want you to be there! So save the date, August 4th 2012, and join us on the patio at Bernies Bungalow in beautiful downtown Anchorage, Alaska for our super- amazing-totally-awesome-can’t-wait-to-dance-down-the-aisle nuptials!
Want to make sure you get an actual invitation (probably an email, but a pretty email none the less!) click on the picture to be directed to our nifty data collection site so you can tell us who’s coming and where to send your invite.
We are not grown ups who keep detailed address books with all our loved ones information. We rely pretty heavily on text messaging and Facebook to keep in touch. But texting a wedding invite isn’t too classy. So, give us your deets, please?
